The Monster steam mop is one of the lesser known models available, and although perhaps not as widely marketed as models made by Shark and Bissell it nevertheless proves to be a worthy alternative as it manages to pack in more features. The Monster Steam Mop is also rated well by users, with some of the best reviews we’ve read.
The Monster steam mop is capable of producing temperatures up to 266 degrees.. Many competing products, including those marketed by Shark and Bissell, don’t get anywhere close to that figure. This is particularly significant as many bacterium can survive at temperatures up to 212 degrees, so some other models of steam mop aren’t quite as hygienic as they could be. This itself makes for a good argument in favor of the Monster over other alternatives, but there are some other nice features that are worth mentioning.
The Monster steam mop has been designed with practicality in mind, and this is obvious by the inclusion of a few thoughtful details. Instead of a single steam outlet on the bottom of the mop, as per other models, the Monster also has a forward facing steam port to allow you to clean some of the harder to reach ares in your home like under furniture and along baseboards. This is a welcome addition, as the location of the water tank prevents access to underneath low-level furniture.
The Monster also provides a nice range of steam settings so that it can adapt to a variety of floors and surfaces around the home. There are four settings in total, from mild steam for upholstery to intense heat and moisture for heavily soiled tile floors.
A 25 foot long power cord allows for freedom of movement and lets you mop greater areas without having to switch power outlets. A relatively large water tank also means you can go for longer between refills. In fact the monsters 17oz water tank is 70% larger than the Shark’s measly 10oz.
By using the included “carpet glide” attachment you can clean rugs and carpeted areas as well. Steam is particularly useful as a sanitizing agent here as the high temperatures are effective at killing off dust mites and their associated allergens. Milder steam settings can even be used on mattresses, although you’ll want to allow ample time before going to bed so that any water residue is completely dried.
Looking at the features and specs above you can see that the Monster Steam Mop lives up to it’s name. Unfortunately this is also reflected in the retail price. Although we wouldn’t describe the price as “monster” this model is nevertheless a little pricier than competing models. It’s also a little larger and heavier, in part due to the larger water tank. Weighing in at a full 9lbs the Monster might not be the best choice for your grandmother – it can feel quite cumbersome in use.
However, despite it’s size, the Monster steam mop offers features unavailable in other mops – the higher temperature, larger tank and longer cord make it a great option for anybody with large areas they want to sanitize. If you fall into this category we strongly recommend you try the Monster steam mop before buying a competing product.
